Holidays Listed

From time to time people send me email suggesting that I post Holiday such-and-such on the site. Not often, but it does happen. The list of holidays I post are those I see as in my opinion most "commonly known." It is by no means exhaustive. There are many holidays I don't list. If I were to add one for such-and-such, then someone else will come and say what abouth this one... what about that one... etc. And the list will become far too bulky in short order.

Because I do not support an exhaustive list, and never claim too, the list I post is what you get.

Dates Wrong

At times I find the dates I list for a holiday are wrong for a particular year. These I do try and correct. Most times it is a Canadian Holiday I get wrong. I live in the USA, and don't always get the dates for Canada correct. Part of the problem I have with Canada, is that sometimes different provinces observe the holiday on different days, and I get confused. Sorry about that.

Why XHTML 1.0 Transitional?

You might ask why I am holding to XHTML 1.0 Transitional, rather than XHTML 1.0 Strict. At the moment the answer is two fold.

1. The XHTML 1.0 Strict standard does not support the [align="center"] attribute in the div tag (to the best of my knowledge). I currently use this feature to center the tables left-to-right on the page, and I have yet to find a better solution. If someone out there has a solution to this issue, I would appreciate knowing what that is.


2. There are many pages that need work, some are rather large, and I would much prefer to get them all in sync at one level before pushing them up to the next higher level. It is a matter of the amount of time I am investing in preparing the pages is not unlimited.

Initial Post

Currently the VP Calendar website is undergoing some "undercover" changes to properly structure every page to be W3C Standards Compliant. The standard I am working towards right now is XHTML 1.0 Transitional, and CSS compliance.

Along with this change, I want to apply more CSS features so that the various "lists" will use CSS to provide the formatting, while the basic data will be more pure. My eventual hope is that the site will be useable as it always has been, but with the added ability to support XML based applications.
